Hello to my fellow podcast lovers and others. T his week I've been focusing a lot on my routines- rituals if you will and I've realized an integral part of my day to day life is in fact pretty simple. Some people watch t.v. Some people read. ( don't worry I do both too ). Today I'm bringing yet another list to you. Top podcasts to listen to. Now, if you would have told me last year that I would be an avid podcast listener I would have probably laughed. Mostly because my first introduction to a podcast was somewhere in middle school when a science teacher assigned homework centered around the most boring dry podcast I've ever listened to. So of course I spent years believing only boring dry people would spend their time listening to them. I dont know what made me decide to start listening ( I'm sure some YouTuber) but im very glad I did. I'm really not one to sit still and listen, but I've found certain podcasts that I simply can't stop listening to. so here they are: When you need a good laugh : Schnitt Talk - Twitter famous Ellie Schnitt brings so much truth and so much laughter to her podcast every. single. Tuesday. Not only is she hilarious but also brilliant and inspiring. Especially geared to us who have no idea what we're really doing ( aka college students). honorable mention: Adulting. If you're a 20 something year old in need of comedic relief from all the stress that is being an adult ( Sort of ? ), this is your podcast. Michelle Buteau and Jordan Carlos will definitely make you feel like you aren't all alone in the weird limbo that is being college aged. For my true crime Junkies : White Lies. This is an NPR produced podcast. Not only is it super interesting like most true crime but it is a product that two investigative journalists brought to light 50 years later. This podcast followed the life and murder of Revered James Reeb. I can't tell you enough- this is worth the read. also: Man in The Window. Produced by The LA times. This is also a real journalistic masterpiece in which a Pulitzer Prize winning investigative reporter, Paige St. John, uncovers details about a serial killer. I'm struggling not to reveal too much about this one, but it is in fact one of the best podcasts I've ever listened to. another one: Gangster Capitalism While this one is not about murder or gangs for that matter. This is about a pressing issue today. The college admissions scandal. This podcast dives deeper in motives behind the college admission scandal. However, it does get a bit dramatic at times, so could get annoying - especially if you are a journalist/ studying journalism, it's produced in a gossipy way. I'm sorry I can't stop: Confronting OJ Simpson with Kim Goldman. The title is pretty self explanatory. it really is worth the listen. If you like you tubers and vloggers: First of all, I love watching you tubers. I love you so much - Kenzie piper does a fantastic job of talking to a number of CEO's and professionals through her podcast about all things lifestyle. Gals on the Go- Danielle Carolyn and Brooke Miccio bring girl boss energy through their podcasts. It is incredibly inspiring. They talk about a number of struggles but also how they as a college graduate and a college student exude productivity. Hey Happiness - Nika Erculj focuses mainly on self care and mental health. She speaks a lot of truth about distigmatizing mental illness and sheds light on becoming more confident, and of course being happy. To get in a good mood/ be inspired: She'd be proud - This is incredible. We all struggle a lot in life but in this fairly short podcast, Lindsay Adkinson, brings real people to talk about overcoming real struggles. People like you and me making the absolute most out of life. Rise - Rachel Hollis, author of " Girl Stop Apologizing" is an absolute ray of sunshine. Her podcast brings me so much joy and inspiration. Stupid Genius - Also by a YouTuber, Emma Chamberlain. If you watch her youtube you know she is hilarious. In her podcast, you have another opportunity to listen to creative ramblings and it really will brighten any mood you are in. She talks about the weirdest things that we've all thought such as why onions make us cry and why ants die after the queen dies and why we hiccup and why yawns are contagious. if you need to get in a good mood, this is a sure way to do it. For fear that this list may be getting too long, I’ve decided to end it here. I could go on and on and on about my favorite podcasts, places I listen to podcasts, activities I engage in while listening to podcasts but for your sake I will not. HAVE A WONDERFUL DAY AND PLEASE LISTEN TO A PODCAST. THEY REALLY ARENT BORING I PROMISE. Above is a real life picture of me enjoying a good Schnitt Talk podcast.

It's no surprise that I'm a big fan of de stigmatizing mental health issues and taking care of your mental health. Why? mental health is one of the most important things. You cannot function properly if you don't take care of your mind. With that all being said, I'm also a huge fan of self care.
My definition of self care - treating yourself (Within Reason) every now and then, rewarding yourself for hard work, and helping yourself calm your mind down. Today the whole self care movement is a little outrageous at times. All things in moderation is a good thing to think about with this. Obviously you don't want to reward yourself with 2 dozen donuts for finishing an essay, but you do need to take breaks so you don't end up breaking under the weight of all the pressure that college brings. Self care is a tricky thing to implement in your life but I promise you it is important. By saying it is important you are telling yourself that you are worthy enough for a break- which you are. Here are some of my favorite things to do to recharge: 1. face masks 2. a trip to a coffee shop 3. getting an ice cream 4. going to the gym 5. a bubble bath 6. petting a puppy.... or ten 7. read a book 8. write in a journal 9. watching a rom com 10. honey vanilla tea - thank me later 11. light a candle 12. turn on some fairy lights 13. a nature hike 14. hammock 15. listen to a podcast - I highly recommend Schnitt talk. Hello Friends!
Today I'm writing about something I've honestly been putting off. Sophomore year, was like any year in college a difficult one. But BOY has it been a good one. This year I lived in my sorority house- a good choice, I made closer friendships, got dumped - yikes!!, Got back up, hung out with friends from home, got super involved in my sorority, bought a car, had 100s of dance parties, late night adventures, got two littles, experienced my first bid day, dyed my hair - 3 or 4 times, pierced my nose, and somehow managed to only gain one more tattoo. Sophomore year was a wild one. For the majority of the year I felt out of touch. I struggled this year a whole lot with mental health, feeling pressure to be perfect, and with finding myself. I changed my major after first semester and I have to say- I've Never been happier. I jumped into journalism feet first and I have loved every minute of reporting, writing, editing, and caring about people. College is weird. You struggle to go to class everyday. You are involved in so much. Meeting after meeting, chapter after chapter, hanging out with friends and managing to study and make A's is not easy. I had a professor at the beginning of the year tell us that we should be studying 3 hours for every hour in class. For my 17 hour schedule that meant 51 hours of studying, that's a full time job!!! I've learned a lot about life this past year, things im passionate about, what I want to do, and honestly - im just very proud of who I am becoming. I'm super happy that I get a break from the constant stress and chaos of school, and I'm ready to see what Junior Year will have in store for me, XOXO, SUNNY SARAH. |
